What are you seeking hypnotherapy for?
Most hypnotherapists tend to focus or specialise in particular areas of concern. Generally, a qualified hypnotherapist can help clients with most issues however if your issue of concern is a little outside the square then do your research to find a hypnotherapist that is specialising in that field.
There are hypnotherapists that focus solely on one issue such as weight loss or to quit smoking so if your concern is pain control they may not be your best choice.
Although I see many clients with different concerns ranging from nail biting to stress, my special interest is in Hypnotherapy with Children as well as Hypnotherapy as an adjunct to Cancer treatment.
- Make sure you look up their website and any social media accounts they may have.
- Don’t be afraid to call and ask questions.
- Find out if they are certified hypnotherapists and if they are registered with a hypnotherapy association.
- Find out how many sessions they feel it will take, how much the sessions cost and how long the sessions run for.
It is very important to ask what the first session will be like, and here’s why.
One of the most important practises in hypnotherapy is the pretalk. This happens at the first appointment you have with a hypnotherapist and is usually substantially longer than a general session appointment. During this appointment the hypnotherapist may ask you to fill in a form which asks many questions and they will go over these questions and answers in detail. There is also a very detailed explanation of what hypnosis is, how it works and how you will feel.
The first appointment with the hypnotherapist is in my opinion the most crucial. If for any reason you attend an appointment with a hypnotherapist and you are not feeling comfortable, safe and completely at ease with an understanding of the process than you have NOT found the right hypnotherapist for you.
Of course, you could find the perfect hypnotherapist on paper. One that has answered all your questions, dotted the i’s and crossed the t’s but you just don’t connect. It happens, but don’t stress, move on and perhaps try again with someone else. When you find a hypnotherapist that you do feel very comfortable with, working towards amazing changes together can begin.
